        AN  ACT  to amend the village law, in relation to villages with November
          elections conducting referenda

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 9-902 of the village law is amended by adding a new
     2  subdivision 6-a to read as follows:
     3    6-a.  For  villages  that  hold their general elections on the general
     4  election day in November, if such petition be  filed  on  or  after  the
     5  first  day  of June and on or before the first day of August, a proposi-
     6  tion for the approval of such act or resolution shall  be  submitted  at
     7  the  general  village  election  date  in  November  of that year.   For
     8  villages that hold their general elections on the general  election  day
     9  in November, if such petition be filed after the first day of August and
    10  before the first day of June, a proposition for the approval of such act
    11  or  resolution  shall be submitted at the special village election to be
    12  held not less than ten nor more than sixty days after the filing of such
    13  petition.
    14    § 2.  Severability.  If  any provision of this act or the  application
    15  thereof shall for any reason be  adjudged  by  any  court  of  competent
    16  jurisdiction  to  be invalid, such judgment shall not affect, impair, or
    17  invalidate the remainder of this act, but shall be confined in its oper-
    18  ation  to the provision thereof directly involved in the  controversy in
    19  which such judgment shall have been rendered.
    20    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
