STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 7311 2021-2022 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY May 5, 2021 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. JENSEN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to increasing the total funding of the Senator Patricia K. McGee nursing faculty scholarship program and providing for increased awards The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Paragraphs a and b of subdivision 3 of section 679-c of the 2 education law, as amended by section 1 of part E3 of chapter 57 of the 3 laws of 2007, are amended to read as follows: 4 a. equal to the [tuition] total cost charged to state resident 5 students attending a master's degree program in nursing or doctoral 6 degree program that will qualify them as nursing faculty or adjunct 7 clinical faculty at the state university of New York[; the average8mandatory fees charged at the state university of New York, or the actu-9al tuition and fees charged to the recipient, whichever is less; and the10average non-tuition cost of attendance, as determined by the corporation11and as approved by the director of the budget, for a student at the12state university of New York or actual non-tuition cost of attendance at13such institution, whichever is less], provided that the scholarship 14 shall not exceed an amount that is equal to the total cost of attendance 15 determined for federal Title IV student financial aid purposes[, less16all other scholarships and grants provided by New York state, other17states, the federal government, or other governments, and the amount of18educational benefits paid under any program that would duplicate the19purposes of this program, provided that any scholarships or grants20provided to a recipient by the institution which are intended to fund21any portion of the difference between the annual state award and the22actual costs of attendance at any such institution shall not be consid-23ered to duplicate the purposes of this program]. McGee nursing faculty 2 scholarship program shall not exceed an annual cost of [two] five 3 million dollars[, and no annual award shall exceed twenty thousand4dollars]. 5 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
