       AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to membership in group or
         blanket accident and health insurance policies
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Paragraph 3 of subsection (a) of section 3221 of the insur-
    2  ance law is amended to read as follows:
    3    (3)  That all new employees or new members in the classes eligible for
    4  insurance must be added to such  class  for  which  they  are  eligible.
    5  ACTIVE  MEMBERS OF VOLUNTEER FIRE AND VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE COMPANIES MUST
    6  BE ADDED TO A CONTRACT OR CONTRACTS TO PROVIDE  HEALTH  INSURANCE  IF  A
    7  PUBLIC  CORPORATION  ELECTS  TO PROVIDE HEALTH INSURANCE TO SUCH MEMBERS
    8  PURSUANT TO SUBDIVISION SEVEN OF SECTION  NINETY-TWO-A  OF  THE  GENERAL
    9  MUNICIPAL  LAW,  NOTWITHSTANDING THE FACT THAT SUCH MEMBERS MAY NOT MEET
   10  THE DEFINITION OF AN "EMPLOYEE" THAT MAY BE CONTAINED IN A  CONTRACT  OF
   11  INSURANCE  BETWEEN  SUCH  PUBLIC  CORPORATION  AND  A PROVIDER OF HEALTH
   12  INSURANCE SERVICES.
   13    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
