AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to prohibiting the state
university of New York, the city university of New York and any alumni
association thereof from releasing student information without consent
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1 Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 360-a
2 to read as follows:
3 S 360-A. RELEASE OF INFORMATION PROHIBITED. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY LAW,
4 RULE OR REGULATION TO THE CONTRARY, NO INSTITUTION OF THE STATE UNIVER-
5 SITY OF NEW YORK OR AN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION THEREOF SHALL RELEASE ANY
6 INFORMATION PERTAINING TO A FORMER OR CURRENT STUDENT TO ANYONE WITHOUT
7 THE WRITTEN CONSENT OF THE STUDENT.
8 S 2. The education law is amended by adding a new section 6235 to read
9 as follows:
10 S 6235. RELEASE OF INFORMATION. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY LAW, RULE OR REGU-
11 LATION TO THE CONTRARY, NO INSTITUTION OF THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW
12 YORK OR AN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION THEREOF SHALL RELEASE ANY INFORMATION
13 PERTAINING TO A FORMER OR CURRENT STUDENT TO ANYONE WITHOUT THE WRITTEN
14 CONSENT OF THE STUDENT.
15 S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
