       AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to missing  children  and
         vulnerable adults
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 837-m of the executive law, as added by chapter 579
    2  of the laws of 1997, is amended to read as follows:
    3    S 837-m. Reporting duties of law enforcement departments with  respect
    4  to  missing  children  AND  VULNERABLE ADULTS. The chief of every police
    5  department, each county sheriff and the superintendent of  state  police
    6  shall  report,  at  least semi-annually, to the division with respect to
    7  specified cases of missing children that are closed. Such reports  shall
    8  be  in  the form and manner prescribed by the division and shall contain
    9  such information as the division  deems  necessary  including,  but  not
   10  limited  to, information regarding recovered children who were arrested,
   11  children who were the victims of criminal activity or  exploitation  and
   12  children  who  were found deceased and information regarding the alleged
   13  abductor or killer of such children.   ANY  LAW  ENFORCEMENT  DEPARTMENT
   14  REFERRED  TO  IN  THIS  SECTION  MAY, IN ITS DISCRETION, INCLUDE IN SUCH
   15  SEMI-ANNUAL REPORTS INFORMATION RELATING TO MISSING VULNERABLE ADULTS AS
   16  SUCH TERM IS DEFINED IN SECTION EIGHT HUNDRED THIRTY-SEVEN-F-ONE OF THIS
   17  ARTICLE.
   18    S 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth  day  after  it  shall
   19  have  become  a  law;  provided  however, that effective immediately the
   20  division of criminal justice services shall be authorized  and  directed
   21  to  amend, add or repeal any rule or regulation necessary for the imple-
   22  mentation of this act on its effective date.
