STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 6181 2023-2024 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY April 3, 2023 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. CURRAN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the creation of a peer to peer mentoring program The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new 2 subdivision 60 to read as follows: 3 60. The commissioner shall require all elementary and secondary 4 schools to create peer to peer mentoring programs relating to the impli- 5 cations of drug abuse. Resources, information and counseling related to 6 drug and substance use must be provided to the mentoring programs by 7 each school. Such resources, information and counseling may be provided 8 by outside organizations and must be age-appropriate for school-age 9 children. 10 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
