        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to the issuance
          of distinctive plates for the United States merchant marine academy at
          Kings Point
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is  amended  by  adding  a  new
     2  section 404-ff to read as follows:
     3    §  404-ff.  Distinctive  plates  for the United States merchant marine
     4  academy at Kings Point. 1. Any person residing in this state shall, upon
     5  request, be issued a license plate bearing the  words  "U.S.    Merchant
     6  Marine Academy at Kings Point". Application for such license plate shall
     7  be  filed  with  the commissioner in such form and detail as the commis-
     8  sioner shall prescribe.
     9    2. A distinctive plate issued pursuant to this section shall be issued
    10  in the same manner as other number plates upon payment  of  the  regular
    11  registration fee prescribed by section four hundred one of this article;
    12  provided,  however,  that  an  additional one time service charge of ten
    13  dollars shall be charged for such plate. Such service  charge  shall  be
    14  deposited  pursuant to the provisions of section four hundred four-oo of
    15  this article, to the credit of the department's distinctive plate devel-
    16  opment fund established by section ninety-five-g of  the  state  finance
    17  law,  and  shall  be  used  for  the production, design, advertising and
    18  marketing of distinctive license plates pursuant to such  section  nine-
    19  ty-five-g.
    20    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
    21  it shall have become a law.
