BUTLER, DiPIETRO, LUPINACCI, McDONOUGH, McLAUGHLIN, PALMESANO, THIELE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to decertification of a teacher who has been convicted of a felony The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 3004 of the education law is amended by adding a 2 new closing paragraph to read as follows: 3 The commissioner shall prescribe regulations that require the immedi- 4 ate decertification of any teacher who is convicted of a felony under 5 the laws of this state or any offense under the laws of another state 6 that, had it occurred in this state, would have constituted a felony. 7 § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed- 8 ing the date on which it shall have become a law; provided that the 9 regulations necessary to the implementation of the provisions of this 10 act shall be promulgated on or before such first of November.
