       AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to disciplining  inmates
         for violating offenses defined in the penal law
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Subdivision 5 of section 138  of  the  correction  law,  as
    2  added by chapter 231 of the laws of 1975, is amended to read as follows:
    3    5.  No  inmate  shall be disciplined except: (I) FOR THE COMMISSION OF
    4  ANY OFFENSE DEFINED IN THE PENAL LAW; OR  (II)  for  a  violation  of  a
    5  published  and  posted  written  rule or regulation, a copy of which has
    6  been provided the inmate.
    7    S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed-
    8  ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
