        AN  ACT  to  amend the public officers law, in relation to prohibiting a
          person convicted of rebellion or insurrection against the authority of
          the United States or the laws thereof from holding civil office in the
          state

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Short title. This act shall be known and may be referred to
     2  as the "Restrict Insurrectionists from Office Taking (RIOT) Act".
     3    § 2. Paragraph (i) of subdivision 1-a of section 3 of the public offi-
     4  cers  law, as added by section 31-b of subpart A of part H of chapter 55
     5  of the laws of 2014, is amended to read as follows:
     6    (i) No person shall be capable of holding a  civil  office  who  shall
     7  stand  convicted  of  a  felony  defined  in article two hundred or four
     8  hundred ninety-six or section 195.20 of the  penal  law,  or  who  shall
     9  stand convicted of violating 18 U.S.C. § 2383.
    10    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
