       AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to prohibited use of weapons
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 265.35 of the penal law is amended by adding a  new
    2  subdivision 4 to read as follows:
    3    4.  ANY PERSON WHO POSSESSES A FIREARM, ANY OTHER GUN OR A NON-FOLDING
    4  KNIFE WHILE UPON THE PREMISES OF  ANY  GOVERNMENTAL  CHAMBER  OR  PUBLIC
    5  HEARING  ROOM OF THE STATE OR ANY POLITICAL SUBDIVISION THEREOF SHALL BE
    6  GUILTY OF A CLASS E FELONY. THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL NOT
    7  APPLY TO POLICE OFFICERS OR PERSONS PROVIDING SECURITY AT THE  DIRECTION
    8  OF THE GOVERNMENTAL ENTITY HAVING JURISDICTION OVER THE PREMISES.
    9    S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed-
   10  ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
