       AN  ACT  to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to reimburse-
         ment for costs incurred by emergency services as a result  of  driving
         while intoxicated
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Subdivision 1-a of section 1193 of the vehicle and  traffic
    2  law is amended by adding a new paragraph (c-1) to read as follows:
    3    (C-1)  A  COURT SENTENCING A PERSON PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION MAY ORDER
    4  THE PERSON SO SENTENCED TO REIMBURSE ANY PROVIDER OF EMERGENCY SERVICES,
    5  INCLUDING  BUT  NOT  LIMITED  TO  POLICE,  AMBULANCE,  OR   FIREFIGHTING
    6  SERVICES,  FOR  COSTS  INCURRED  AS  A  RESULT OF ANY EMERGENCY RESPONSE
    7  RESULTING FROM THE INCIDENCE OF OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE FOR WHICH A
    8  PERSON HAS BEEN SENTENCED.
    9    S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed-
   10  ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
