          tee on Cities

        AN ACT to authorize the city of Yonkers to  establish  a  transportation
          improvement  district or districts for the purpose of improving trans-
          portation in certain critical areas of such city

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, but
     2  to the extent practicable, in accordance with the general city law,  the
     3  city  of  Yonkers,  acting  by  and  through its city council, is hereby
     4  authorized  to  establish  and  operate  a  transportation   improvement
     5  district  or  transportation improvement districts within such city. The
     6  purpose of such district or districts shall be to improve transportation
     7  within certain critical areas of the city of Yonkers including, but  not
     8  limited  to  the  Tuckahoe  road corridor, the Yonkers raceway area, the
     9  Nepperhan/Saw Mill industrial valley area,  the  northern  and  southern
    10  waterfront development areas, the Riverdale avenue corridor, the Yonkers
    11  avenue corridor and neighborhood commercial corridors.
    12    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
