MAGNARELLI -- read once and referred to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to creating the 21st century workgroup for disease elimination and reduction THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Article 2 of the public health law is amended by adding a 2 new title 6 to read as follows: 3 TITLE 6 4 THE 21ST CENTURY WORKGROUP FOR DISEASE ELIMINATION AND REDUCTION 5 SECTION 266. THE 21ST CENTURY WORKGROUP FOR DISEASE ELIMINATION AND 6 REDUCTION. 7 S 266. THE 21ST CENTURY WORKGROUP FOR DISEASE ELIMINATION AND 8 REDUCTION. THE 21ST CENTURY WORKGROUP FOR DISEASE ELIMINATION AND 9 REDUCTION IS HEREBY CREATED WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT. THE WORKGROUP SHALL: 10 1. BE COMPRISED OF EXPERTS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT'S BUREAU OF IMMUNIZA- 11 TION, EXPERTS ON THE IMMUNIZATION ADVISORY COUNCIL AND OTHER EXPERTS THE 12 COMMISSIONER DEEMS APPROPRIATE, CHARGED WITH THE MISSION OF REVIEWING 13 EXISTING VACCINES, THE STATUS OF INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT 14 FOR VACCINES LIKELY TO BE CANDIDATES FOR THE PHARMACEUTICAL MARKETPLACE, 15 AND TO REVIEW THE STATUS OF HEALTH THREATS WHICH COULD BE ADDRESSED BY 16 THE DEVELOPMENT OF VACCINES; 17 2. STUDY THE SEVERITY, FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE, LIKELIHOOD OF RECUR- 18 RENCE, EXISTING ANIMAL VACCINES AND POTENTIAL HUMAN VACCINES FOR TUBER- 19 CULOSIS, EASTERN EQUINE ENCEPHALITIS VIRUS, LYME DISEASE, HUMAN IMMUNO- 20 DEFICIENCY VIRUS, AND ANY OTHER DISEASE OR VIRUS THE COMMISSIONER DEEMS 21 APPROPRIATE; 22 3. CONSULT WITH NATIONAL VACCINE AND IMMUNIZATION POLICY MAKING ORGAN- 23 IZATIONS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON IMMUN- 24 IZATION PRACTICES UNDER THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION, EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. This act shall take effect immediately.
