     Designates April 10th each year as Sibling's Day.

A Joint Resolution designating April 10th of each year as Sibling's Day.

 

Whereas, Sibling's Day follows the spirit of Mother's and Father's Day, honoring those family members who have helped in our development and who have shaped our values, beliefs, and ideals; and

Whereas, The family has always been the cornerstone of American society and is vital to the strength of our communities, State, and nation; and

Whereas, Siblings are an important part of many families as they are our first companions and often lifelong friends and teachers; and

Whereas, The deep connection which can develop between siblings is a bond that deserves special recognition; and

Whereas, The observance of Sibling's Day provides an opportunity to reflect upon the unique sibling bond and to honor these precious relationships which help preserve and pass on our heritage and family traditions; and

Whereas, It is appropriate to designate one day of the year to pay tribute to siblings throughout our State and nation, and to gather in remembrance of those who have passed on; now, therefore,

 

     Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  April 10th of each year is designated as Sibling's Day in the State of New Jersey to acknowledge the importance of family and sibling relationships in our community, State and nation.

 

     2.  The Governor is requested to annually issue a proclamation and call upon public officials, private organizations, and all citizens and residents of this State to observe April 10th of each year as Sibling's Day.

 

     3.  This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This joint resolution designates April 10th of each year as Sibling's Day in New Jersey.  Sibling's Day follows the spirit of Mother's and Father's Day by recognizing and paying tribute to these vital family relationships.  The strength of families is the cornerstone of American society and is crucial to the well being of the communities in New Jersey.  Recognition of Sibling's Day will stress the important role family unity plays in the lives of every citizen and resident of the State.
