SYNOPSIS

     Designates April 24 of each year as "Toiletry Day" in New Jersey.

A Joint Resolution designating April 24 of each year as "Toiletry Day" in New Jersey.

 

Whereas, A lack of basic toiletries such as diapers, wipes, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste and toothbrushes, and feminine hygiene products can lead to poor personal hygiene; and

Whereas, There are many adverse emotional, health, and social effects of poor personal hygiene; and

Whereas, For example, poor personal hygiene can lead to bad breath, body odor, dental disease, skin infections, urinary tract infections, influenza, ringworm, body lice, and general illness; and

Whereas, Those suffering from poor personal hygiene may also find themselves ostracized by family, friends, and society in general, which can lead to depression; and

Whereas, Basic toiletries may not be affordable to certain families, especially families with children; and

Whereas, Access to basic toiletries is also especially important to those whose physical or mental health is already compromised; and

Whereas, Toiletry donations to organizations which support those in need are much appreciated and needed; and

Whereas, By increasing awareness of the many challenges facing individuals who lack access to basic toiletries, the generous citizens of this State are encouraged to make monetary or in-kind donations to charitable organizations that serve those lacking basic toiletries; and

Whereas, It is appropriate that April 24 of each year be designated as "Toiletry Day" to help meet a basic need that, although simple, can make a significant difference in the daily life of an individual who is suffering as a result of not having access to basic toiletries; now, therefore,

 

     Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    April 24 of each year is designated as "Toiletry Day" in order to promote the collection of toiletries in this State for those in need.

 

     2.    The Governor is requested to issue an annual proclamation recognizing April 24 of each year as "Toiletry Day" and calling upon public officials and the citizens of this State to observe the day with appropriate activities and programs.

 

     3.    This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

 

     This joint resolution designates April 24 of each year as "Toiletry Day" in order to promote the collection of toiletries in this State for those in need.  By increasing awareness of the many challenges facing individuals who lack access to basic toiletries, the generous citizens of this State are encouraged to make monetary or in-kind donations to charitable organizations that serve those lacking basic toiletries.
