SYNOPSIS

Expresses Legislature's support for federal legislation providing free postage for correspondence and parcels mailed to certain members of Armed Forces.

CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

     As introduced.

A Concurrent Resolution expressing the New Jersey Legislature's support for the enactment of federal legislation to provide free postage for personal correspondence and parcels mailed to certain members of the Armed Forces of the United States.

Whereas, For more than 234 years brave citizens have served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States; and

Whereas, Members of the military endure hardship, separation from family and friends, and personal danger to defend our nation and the values for which it stands; and

Whereas, At the present time, hundreds of thousands of American military personnel are serving our country in hostile areas around the world; and

Whereas, The members of the Armed Forces of the United States have earned the respect and support of the American people through their skilled service and innumerable sacrifices; and

Whereas, Legislation before Congress would provide free mailing privileges for personal correspondence and certain parcels sent from within the United States to members of the Armed Forces serving on active duty abroad who are engaged in military operations involving armed conflict against a hostile foreign force; and

Whereas, Enactment of this federal legislation would allow Americans to more easily stay in contact with, and demonstrate support for, their friends and loved ones serving in the Armed Forces; and

Whereas, This federal legislation would also help to increase the morale of our military personnel serving abroad; now therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey (the General Assembly concurring):

     1.    The New Jersey Legislature strongly supports free postage for personal correspondence and certain parcels mailed to members of the Armed Forces serving abroad and urges the Congress and the President of the United States to enact legislation implementing this policy.

     2.    Duly authenticated copies of this concurrent resolution, signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and the President of the Senate and attested by the Clerk of the General Assembly and the Secretary of the Senate, shall be transmitted to the President of the United States, the Vice President of the United States, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and each member of Congress elected from the State of New Jersey.
