     Overrides Governor's line-item veto eliminating an appropriation for New Jersey After 3 student services and a related language provision in the Department of Education.

A Concurrent Resolution overriding a line-item veto eliminating an appropriation for New Jersey After 3 student services and a related language provision in the Department of Education.

 

     Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey (the General Assembly concurring):

 

     1.    That the following appropriation and language provision, on page 59 of Senate Bill No. 4000 of 2011 (P.L.2011, c.85) which were the subject of objection by the Governor in the Governor's veto statement of June 30, 2011, be restored to law as follows, the objections thereto of the Governor notwithstanding:

GRANTS-IN-AID

 

40-5064 Student Services ......................................................  $3,000,000

Grants-in-Aid:

        40 New Jersey After 3 ..............................  ($3,000,000)

 

The sums provided hereinabove for New Jersey After 3 shall be conditioned upon the State Treasurer and the grant recipient entering into a grant agreement; shall be available for grants awarded by New Jersey After 3, Inc.; and shall be available for funding programs, activities, functions, and facilities consistent with recommendations and proposals of the New Jersey After 3 Advisory Committee.

 

     2.    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be delivered to the Governor, the State Treasurer and the Commissioner of the Department of Education.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This resolution restores the elimination of an appropriation and a related language provision in the annual appropriations act for Fiscal Year 2012 that were eliminated by the Governor's line-item veto.  The Grants-In-Aid appropriation of $3,000,000 for New Jersey After 3 and the related language provision provide for the awarding of grants by New Jersey After 3, Inc, for funding programs, activities, functions and facilities consistent with recommendations and proposals of the New Jersey After 3 Advisory Committee.

     New Jersey After 3 is a private, nonprofit organization that is dedicated to expanding and improving afterschool opportunities for New Jersey's children.  New Jersey After 3 programs expand learning time in public schools by more than 40% each school day across urban, suburban, and rural communities through a specific, evidence-based program model.  New Jersey After 3 serves more than 5,000 students in 35 public schools.
