SYNOPSIS

     Requires public school to provide timely notification to parents concerning results of any health screening conducted by school physician, school nurse, or other trained employee.

An Act concerning health screenings for public school students and supplementing chapter 40 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The board of education of a school district shall develop a policy to ensure that the parent or guardian of a student who undergoes any health screening conducted by the school physician, school nurse, or other properly trained school employee, is provided with timely notification of the results of the screening.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the board of education of a school district to develop a policy to ensure that the parent or guardian of a student who undergoes any health screening conducted by the school physician, school nurse, or other properly trained school employee, receives timely notification of the results of the screening.

     State Board of Education regulations at N.J.A.C.6A:16-2.2(l) require health screenings for height, weight, blood pressure, visual acuity, auditory acuity, and scoliosis.  Under N.J.A.C.6A:16-2.2(l) 6, a school district is required to notify the parent if the student's screening results in a deviation from the recommended standard. This bill ensures that, regardless of the results, parents will receive timely notification of the results of the screening.
