SYNOPSIS
Requires health insurance carriers, SHBP, and SEHBP to inform covered persons about organ and tissue donation.

An Act concerning health insurance carriers and organ donation information and supplementing P.L.1997, c.192 (C.26:2S-1 et al).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. A carrier shall provide to subscribers written informational materials about organ and tissue donation and registration at each contract renewal. The materials shall be developed or approved by a federally designated organ procurement organization, and shall inform subscribers as to how to make an anatomical gift, including information on the registration of a gift in the Donate Life New Jersey registry.
b. For purposes of this section, "carrier," as defined in P.L.1997, c.192 (C.26:2S-1 et al.), shall also include the State Health Benefits Program and the School Employees' Health Benefits Program.
2. This act shall take effect on the 90th day next following enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill, which supplements the "Health Care Quality Act," requires carriers to provide to subscribers written informational materials about organ and tissue donation and registration at each contract renewal. The materials shall be developed or approved by a federally designated organ procurement organization, and shall inform subscribers as to how to make an anatomical gift, including information on the registration of a gift in the Donate Life New Jersey registry.
