SYNOPSIS

     Requires DHSS to post on website information concerning hospital emergency department staffing and services for pediatric patients.

An Act concerning pediatric emergency medicine and supplementing P.L.1992, c.96 (C.26:2K-48 et seq.).

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    1a.1 The Department of Health and Senior Services shall 1[compile the data submitted annually by each general hospital from the hospital's pediatric emergency medicine registry, as required pursuant to N.J.A.C.8:43G-12.4, and include in the New Jersey Hospital Performance Report issued annually by the department hospital-specific data from the individual hospital registries.  The department shall select those data elements from the hospital registries it deems most relevant for inclusion in the report.] post the following information on its Internet website:

     (1)   a list of all designated children's hospitals in the State;

     (2)   a list of all general hospitals in the State that maintain a separate pediatric emergency department and, by hospital, the hours of operation of each pediatric emergency department;

     (3)   by hospital, a list of pediatric subspecialties, if any, that are available at each general hospital in the State; and

     (4)   by hospital, the board certification of each emergency department physician who is employed at a general hospital in the State.

     b.    The department shall compile, by hospital, from the data submitted annually by each general hospital from the hospital's pediatric emergency medicine registry, as required pursuant to N.J.A.C.8:43G-12.4, the mode of arrival of each patient under 18 years of age who is admitted to the hospital's emergency department and either dies or is admitted to an intensive care unit or step-down unit.     The department shall post this information with the information required pursuant to subsection a. of this section.1

 

     2.    This act shall take effect on the 60th day following enactment.
