SYNOPSIS

     Designates four State songs.

An Act designating four State songs and supplementing chapter 9A of Title 52 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The State songs shall be the words and music of the following:

     a.     "New Jersey My Home," by Patrick Finley, shall be designated as the State Anthem.

     b.    "In New Jersey," with lyrics inspired by the former 4th grade class of Alexandra "Sandy" Vitale at the Van Holten School in Bridgewater and music by Terre McPheeters, shall be designated as the State Children's Song.

     c.     "Be Proud To Be In New Jersey," by Mark Winter and Ellen Winter, shall be designated as the State Popular Song.

     d.    "New Jersey, U.S.A.," composed by Nelson Trout, shall be designated as the State Ballad.

     The Secretary of State shall maintain the printed music or sound recordings of each of the designated songs in the State Library, or in another suitable archive, as a resource for the people of New Jersey.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill would designate four songs as the State songs of New Jersey.  The bill designates each song as either the State anthem, children's song, popular song, or ballad.

     Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of State to maintain the printed music or sound recordings of each of the designated songs in the State Library, or in another suitable archive, as a resource for the people of New Jersey.
