SYNOPSIS

Prohibits housing allowance in contract between State Board of Education and State district superintendent.

CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

     As introduced.

An Act concerning the contract between the State Board of Education and a State district superintendent and supplementing chapter 7A of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, a contract entered into by the State Board of Education with a State district superintendent appointed pursuant to subsection a. of section 2 of P.L.1987, c.399 (C.18A:7A-35), shall not provide for a housing allowance.

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

This bill requires that a contract entered into by the State Board of Education with a State district superintendent appointed pursuant to P.L.1987, c.399, not provide for a housing allowance.  A State district superintendent may be appointed by the State board in a school district which has been placed under full State intervention. Reports have indicated that a number of the contracts entered into with State district superintendents have included a housing allowance.  Such an allowance would seem to be an unnecessary and rather exorbitant perquisite.
