SYNOPSIS

     Authorizes display of flashing amber warning lights on sanitation vehicles.

An Act authorizing the display of amber warning lights and supplementing chapter 3 of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.  Sanitation vehicles operated by a local public entity, or 1by a licensed solid waste collection company1 pursuant to a 1State or local1 permit, license, contract, or franchise with a local public entity, and used to collect and transport garbage, solid wastes, and refuse may display flashing amber warning lights of a type approved by the chief administrator while stopped upon a street and while engaged in the collection of garbage, solid wastes, and refuse or while moving between stops at a speed not greater than 10 miles per hour.

     b.    Nothing herein shall be construed to grant any person displaying flashing amber warning lights pursuant to the provisions of this act any privileges or exemptions denied to the drivers of other motor vehicles and all such persons shall drive with due regard for the safety of all persons and shall obey the traffic laws of this State.

     c.     The 1[Chief Administrator] chief administrator1 shall promulgate guidelines to effectuate the purposes of this act.  

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.
