SYNOPSIS

     Requires school districts to notify DOE of sicknesses resulting from confirmed or suspected air pollution or other contamination.

An Act concerning notification of certain sicknesses by school districts and supplementing Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  a.  A school district shall notify the Department of Education of any sickness of a student or employee of the school district confirmed or suspected to be the result of air pollution or other contamination at a school.

     b.  The notification required pursuant to this section shall be in addition to any other notification requirements or procedures for reporting suspected pollution or contamination pursuant to any other law, including but not limited to the "New Jersey Public Employees' Occupational Safety and Health Act," P.L.1983, c.516 (C.34:6A-25 et seq.), and any rules and regulations adopted pursuant thereto.

     c.  The Department of Education shall inform school districts of the requirements of this section.

 

     2.  This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires school districts to notify the Department of Education of any sickness of a student or employee of the school district confirmed or suspected to be a result of air pollution or other contamination at a school.  This notification would be in addition to any other notification or procedures required by any other law, including the "New Jersey Public Employees' Occupational Safety and Health Act."
