STATEMENT
This resolution commemorates the annual Feast of Saint Patrick, celebrated on March 17th of each year. On Saint Patrick's Day, people all over the world honor and celebrate Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, by sharing their love of Ireland and of Irish culture and heritage. Irish immigrants to the United States helped form the cultural foundation of the nation and have influenced how Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated in the United States of America and around the world.
Celebrations often include public parades and festivals, traditional Irish music, and wearing green attire or shamrocks. Traditional Irish music encompasses a wide range of emotions and themes and include songs of tragic love, songs of honor in battle, and songs of the sorrows and glories of Ireland. By wearing green attire, people celebrate the spirit of Saints Patrick, Bridget, and Colmcille, whose 1,500th anniversary was in December 2020.
