SYNOPSIS
Designates August 14, 2014 as "Half Valentine's Day."

An Assembly Resolution designating August 14, 2014 as "Half St. Valentine's Day."
Whereas, February 14th, Valentine's Day, provides people around the world with the opportunity to exchange gifts of affection and appreciation with loved ones; and
Whereas, Valentine's Day serves as one of the largest revenue generating days for many merchants, florists, restaurateurs, service providers, and other businesses; and
Whereas, In New Jersey, the winter of 2013-2014 produced numerous snow storms and extremely cold days, and Valentine's Day 2014 fell on a day that produced freezing cold temperatures and was in the midst of multiple snow storms; and
Whereas, The harsh weather in New Jersey on Valentine's Day caused many residents to change their holiday plans and, as a result, many businesses were adversely impacted and saw reductions in customer traffic and revenues compared to prior years; and
Whereas, In an effort to assist businesses to recoup losses and promote economic activity, a second day of celebration, known as "Half St. Valentine's Day," was adopted by the Borough of Roseland, New Jersey; and
Whereas, "Half St. Valentine's Day" encourages residents to celebrate the half way point between Valentine's Day 2014 and Valentine's Day 2015; and
Whereas, The summer celebration will allow residents throughout the State to enjoy the spirit of Valentine's Day without the harsh conditions of winter and will create a positive business climate and promote economic activity in New Jersey; and
Whereas, It is altogether fitting and proper for this House to designate August 14, 2014 as "Half St. Valentine's Day" in the State of New Jersey; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House hereby designates August 14, 2014 as "Half St. Valentine's Day."
2. The Governor is requested to issue a proclamation designating August 14, 2014 as "Half St. Valentine's Day" and call upon public officials and the citizens of New Jersey to celebrate the day with appropriate activities and events.
3. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to the Governor of the State of New Jersey, the Mayor and the Council members of the Borough of Roseland, New Jersey, the Acting President of the New Jersey Business and Industry Association, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, and the President of the New Jersey Retail Merchants Association.

This resolution designates August 14, 2014 as "Half St. Valentine's Day."

However, the winter of 2013-2014 produced numerous snow storms and extremely cold days in New Jersey and caused many residents to change their Valentine's Day plans.
