An Assembly Resolution designating August 14, 2014 as "Half St. Valentine's Day."

Whereas, February 14th, Valentine's Day, provides people around the world with the opportunity to exchange gifts of affection and appreciation with loved ones; and

Whereas, Valentine's Day serves as one of the largest revenue generating days for many merchants, florists, restaurateurs, service providers, and other businesses; and

Whereas, In New Jersey, the winter of 2013-2014 produced numerous snow storms and extremely cold days, and Valentine's Day 2014 fell on a day that produced freezing cold temperatures and was in the midst of multiple snow storms; and

Whereas, The harsh weather in New Jersey on Valentine's Day caused many residents to change their holiday plans and, as a result, many businesses were adversely impacted and saw reductions in customer traffic and revenues compared to prior years; and

Whereas, In an effort to assist businesses to recoup losses and promote economic activity, a second day of celebration, known as "Half St. Valentine's Day," was adopted by the Borough of Roseland, New Jersey; and

Whereas, "Half St. Valentine's Day" encourages residents to celebrate the half way point between Valentine's Day 2014 and Valentine's Day 2015; and

Whereas, The summer celebration will allow residents throughout the State to enjoy the spirit of Valentine's Day without the harsh conditions of winter and will create a positive business climate and promote economic activity in New Jersey; and

Whereas, It is altogether fitting and proper for this House to designate August 14, 2014 as "Half St. Valentine's Day" in the State of New Jersey; now, therefore,
