Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, any pupil of a public school, aged 16 or older, who is absent from school on an election day in the State, in order to complete paid service as a poll worker during an election held in the State, shall have the absence for those reasons recorded as an excused absence on the pupil's attendance record or on that of any group or class of which the pupil is a member. b. A pupil shall provide any documentation the superintendent or administrative principal of the school district deems necessary to prove the pupil meets the requirements for the excused absence under subsection a. of this section.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill provides an excused absence for a pupil who serves as a poll worker on an election day.
Under the bill, any pupil of a public school, aged 16 or older, who is absent from school on an election day in the State, in order to complete paid service as a poll worker during an election held in the State, is to have the absence for those reasons recorded as an excused absence on the pupil's attendance record or on that of any group or class of which the pupil is a member.
