An Act concerning students with substance abuse disorder and amending N.J.S.18A:46-1.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    N.J.S.18A:46-1 is amended to read as follows:

     18A:46-1.  As used in this chapter, a child with a disability shall mean and include any child who has: an intellectual disability, a visual impairment, an auditory impairment, a communication impairment, a neurological or perceptual impairment, an orthopedic impairment, a chronic illness, an emotional disturbance impairment, multiple disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, a traumatic brain injury, other health impairments, a substance abuse disorder, a specific learning disability, or is deaf-blind, or a pre-schooler with a disability.

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill would include "substance abuse disorder" in the list of disabilities that would qualify a child for special education and related services under State law.
