SYNOPSIS
Establishes food rescue hotline.
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

An Act establishing a food rescue hotline and supplementing Title 52 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. The Food Security Advocate shall establish and maintain1,1 in the Office of the Food Security Advocate1,1 a 1[toll-free]1 food rescue 1[telephone]1 hotline1[. The hotline] that1 shall 1be designed to:
(1)1 receive and respond to 1[calls] requests submitted by telephone, in-person, or through electronic or other means, as may be authorized by the Food Security Advocate,1 from individuals or organizations 1that are1 seeking to donate large quantities of food1;1 and 1[shall]
(2)1 direct 1[callers] each individual or organization requesting hotline assistance, pursuant to paragraph (1) of this subsection1 to an appropriate food bank1,1 and 1to1 other 1appropriate1 community resources and organizations1, in order1 to facilitate the delivery of 1the requester's donated1 food to an appropriate location.
b. The Food Security Advocate shall engage in a public awareness campaign, using all available media, including television, radio, print, the Internet, and social media, to inform the public about the availability and purpose of the food rescue hotline.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
