     Requires BPU to issue written decision concerning utility rate increase approvals to public via its website.

An Act concerning reporting of public utility rate increase approvals, and supplementing Title 48 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a. The Board of Public Utilities shall, upon the approval of any petition from a public utility for an adjustment in existing tariffs that proposes to increase individual rates, joint rates, tolls, or charges, or schedules thereof, issue a written decision, which shall present a detailed analysis and accounting of the elements involved in determining the approval of the public utility rate increase.  The decision shall be provided within 60 days following the approval of the rate increase, and shall be conspicuously set forth on the board's website.

     b.    For the purposes of this section, "public utility" means a public utility as defined in R.S.48:2-13, providing gas, electric, water, or sewer service.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Board of Public Utilities to issue a written decision containing a detailed analysis and accounting of the elements involved in determining the approval of any petition from a public utility for an adjustment in existing tariffs that proposes to increase individual rates, joint rates, tolls, or charges, or schedules thereof.  This decision shall be provided within 60 days following the approval of the rate increase, and shall be conspicuously set forth on the board's website.
