SYNOPSIS
Prohibits telecommunications companies from charging for certain services.

An Act concerning telephone bills and supplementing Title 48 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. No telecommunications company shall charge a consumer, on the consumer's telephone bill, for any service provided by another company, provider, entity, or person unless the consumer can cancel that service solely by contacting the telecommunications company.
b. A violation of this section shall be punishable by a civil penalty of not more than $1,000 for each offense, which shall be collected and enforced through summary proceedings pursuant to the "Penalty Enforcement Law of 1999," P.L.1999, c.274 (C.2A:58-10 et seq.).
2. This act shall take effect on the first day of the seventh month following enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill would prohibit telecommunications companies from charging consumers, on their telephone bill, for services provided by other companies, providers, entities, or persons, unless the consumer can cancel the service solely by contacting the telecommunications company. The bill specifies that violations would be punishable by a civil penalty of not more than $1,000 per offense.
