     Prohibits opening a motor vehicle door into oncoming traffic.

An Act concerning motor vehicle safety and supplementing Title 39 of the Revised Statutes. 

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  No person shall open the door of a motor vehicle on the side of the vehicle that is facing the street or highway and is available to moving traffic unless it is reasonably safe to do so, and the door can be opened without interfering with or obstructing the movement of traffic.   A person who violates this section shall be fined $100. 

 

     2.  This act shall take effect immediately. 

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill establishes the violation of opening the door of a motor vehicle into moving traffic when it is not reasonably safe to do so.  A person who violates the provisions of this bill is subject to a $100 fine.
