An Act concerning certain ward committees of a political party, and supplementing chapter 5 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.  Whenever a city of the first class with a population of 270,000 or more, according to the most recent federal decennial census, is divided into wards pursuant to the "Municipal Ward Law," P.L.1981, c.496 (C.40:44-9 et seq.), the chair of each ward committee of a political party of that city shall have the same rights and responsibilities as the chair of a municipal committee of a political party as provided for in R.S.19:5-2 and section 22 of P.L.1983, c.579 (C.19:5-2.1).  Such a city shall not be required to have a chair for a municipal committee of a political party in that city.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill would provide that whenever a city of the first class with a population of 270,000 or more is divided into wards, the chair of each ward committee of a political party of that city is to have the same rights and responsibilities as the chair of a municipal committee of a political party as provided for in current law.

     The bill also provides that such a city would not be required to have a chair for a municipal committee of a political party in that city.
