AN ACT relative to providing victims of crime with a free police report of the investigation.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Five

 

AN ACT relative to providing victims of crime with a free police report of the investigation.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  Rights of Crime Victims; Copy of Police Report.  Amend RSA 21-M:8-k, II(i) to read as follows:

(i) The right to be informed about available resources, financial assistance, and social services; and, within 30 days upon request, the right to be provided a copy of the complete police report without charge following the closure of the case by either the investigating or prosecuting agency.

2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.

METHODOLOGY:

This bill provides victims of crime with a right to a free police report of the investigation following the disposition of the case.  There may a minimal cost to a state, county or local law enforcement agency to produce a copy of the police report of the investigation to the victim.  Such costs cannot be determined as the number of reports that will be requested is unknown.

 

It is assumed that any fiscal impact would occur after FY 2025.
