A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT appropriating funds to the department of health and human services for the purchase and distribution of opioid antagonists for the treatment of opioid‑related drug overdoses.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services, the sum of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) for the 2015‑2016 fiscal year for the purchase of opioid antagonists as defined in G.S. 90‑106.2. These funds shall be allocated as follows:
(1) Twenty‑five thousand dollars ($25,000) for the purchase of opioid antagonists to be distributed at no charge to an incorporated, nonprofit organization in this State that provides services to individuals at risk of experiencing an opioid‑related drug overdose, or to the friends and family members of an at‑risk individual.
(2) Twenty‑five thousand dollars ($25,000) for the purchase of opioid antagonists to be distributed at no charge to North Carolina law enforcement agencies.
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2015.
