A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to amend the charter of the town of madison regarding the conduction of elections.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. Article IV of the Charter of the Town of Madison, being Chapter 289 of the 1973 Session Laws, reads as rewritten:
"ARTICLE IV. ELECTIONS
"Sec. 4.1. Regular Municipal Elections. Notwithstanding
G.S. 163‑279, Regularregular municipal elections
shall be held biennially in odd‑numberedeven‑numbered
years on the day set by general law for municipal general elections.
In each election, the candidate for Mayor who receives the largest number of
votes cast for Mayor shall be declared elected for a term of two years and the
six candidates for Alderman who receive the largest number of votes cast for
Alderman shall be declared elected for terms of two four years.
"Sec. 4.2. Regulation of Elections. All Town elections
shall be conducted in accordance with the general laws of North Carolina
relating to municipal elections. elections except for G.S. 163‑279."
SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law.
