A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT allowing certified professional midwives to provide Certain midwifery services without being subject to criminal penalty.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. Chapter 90 of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new Article to read:
"Article 10B.
"Practice of Midwifery by Certified Professional Midwives.
"§ 90‑178.10. Practice of midwifery by certified professional midwife.
Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, any person who is certified as a Certified Professional Midwife by the North American Registry of Midwives may provide prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care as defined in G.S. 90‑178.2, in accordance with the Standards for Practice of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives."
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2014.
