A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO THE department of health and human services, division of public health, TO ASSIST DEAF CHILDREN WITH COCHLEAR IMPLANTS TO DEVELOP SPOKEN LANGUAGE.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health, the sum of five hundred seventy‑five thousand dollars ($575,000) in recurring funds for the 2010‑2011 fiscal year for the Carolina Children's Communicative Disorders Program of The University of North Carolina Health Care System.  These funds shall be used to support the Center for the Acquisition of Spoken Language Through Listening Enrichment (CASTLE) in training teachers and therapists across the State to work with deaf preschool‑age children with cochlear implants and to provide oral preschool classes to these children.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2010.
