A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND RECOGNIZE DISTRICT 10 STATE REPRESENTATIVE AND FORMER SENATOR NOLAN METTETAL FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE.

     WHEREAS, House District 10 State Representative Nolan Mettetal has announced that he will not be seeking reelection.  He has represented Senate and House District 10, which includes portions of Lafayette, Panola and Tallahatchie Counties, for 24 years.  In Nolan Mettetal, the citizens of District 10 have had effective representation from a dedicated public servant with business and pharmaceutical experience; and

     WHEREAS, Nolan Mettetal was first elected to the Mississippi Senate in 1996, where he served until his election to the House of Representatives in 2012.  In the Senate, Nolan was Chairman of the Business and Financial Institutions Committee from 2000-2008, and Chairman of the Public Utilities Committee from 2008-2012; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Mettetal's 2015 Committee Memberships include:  Chairman of Universities and Colleges; Appropriations; Banking and Financial Services; Medicaid; Public Health and Human Services; and Public Property; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Mettetal attended Northwest Mississippi Community College, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from The University of Mississippi.  Before serving in the Legislature, he owned and operated a local pharmacy in Sardis, Mississippi, where he worked as a registered Pharmacist; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Mettetal is a member of the Mississippi Pharmacist Association.  He is active in the Alumni Associations of Northwest Community College and the University of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Mettetal was born on November 19, 1945, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He is married to the former Kay Ford and is of the Methodist faith; and

     WHEREAS, while Representative Mettetal has been favored with many opportunities, those who really know him know that his first love is his darling wife, Mrs. Kay Mettetal, whose warm disposition, beautiful smile, impeccable style and dress and dainty presence, compliments his stature so well, and has become a chief mainstay throughout the Capitol, as most would bestow upon her the title of "Honorary Legislator" and refer to her as the "Gentle Lady" from Panola.  In addition to Kay, much credit is also due to his loved ones who have sacrificed countless hours to fulfill his legislative obligations, including:  children, Dr. Cary Nolan Mettetal (Carla), a practicing physician in Sardis, and Kim Mettetal Reed (Randall), a Senatobia Nurse Practitioner; grandchildren, Gracie Kay Mettetal, Jules Mettetal, Nolan Paul Reed, Adelaide Reed and Sadie Kay Reed; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Mettetal's tenure in the Legislature made him an expert in many areas of Mississippi government and he was particularly knowledgeable in the details of health care licensure and finance; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Mettetal's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment, civility, courtesy and fairness.  He has set the highest standard in all of his many roles:  husband, father, businessman, statesman, community leader, leader in the Mississippi Legislature, and as a true friend.  Nolan's service honored the Mississippi Senate and the House of Representatives and this great state that he loved and served:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize District 10 State Representative and former State Senator Nolan Mettetal for his distinguished service in the Mississippi Legislature.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Representative Nolan Mettetal and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
