A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PASCAGOULA RESURRECTION CATHOLIC SCHOOL "EAGLES" BASEBALL TEAM AND COACH JOHNNY OLSEN FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST EVER MHSAA CLASS 1A STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Pascagoula Resurrection Catholic School "Eagles" Baseball Team walked out of Trustmark Park wearing runner-up medallions in 2021, determined not to come up short should they get back in 2022. The "Eagles" proudly walked off the field on May 26, 2022, holding aloft the MHSAA Class 1A State Championship Trophy after defeating Biggersville 4-0 to complete the series sweep. It was the first baseball championship in school history; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Johnny Olsen, who had already announced that 2022 would be his last year to coach after six years with the program, retired on top after a long and successful coaching career in Pascagoula; and
WHEREAS, Coach Lee Tingle spent more than ten years coaching the Resurrection Catholic Baseball Team and helped the Eagles win the 2022 Class 1A State Championship. He devoted a significant portion of his life to the Pascagoula community through youth sports, but sadly passed away after the season and will always be remembered fondly for his contributions to this Championship Program; and
WHEREAS, the Eagles (33-5) got a great start out of Pearl River CC signee J.T. Schnoor in Tuesday's Game 1, and they got an even better one out of fellow senior Joe Scarborough in Game 2. Scarborough, a right hander, went all seven innings, throwing 82 pitches, striking out six and allowing two hits and no walks.
Scarborough kept Biggersville (25-7) off balance all day by mixing up his fastball and changeup; and
WHEREAS, "The seniors on this team, we kind of came in together and we're going out together," Coach Olsen said. "We've been through a lot together and I couldn't be prouder of them for getting this program where it is today."
WHEREAS, the 2022 Eagles Championship Roster is: Jaylen Harper, Daniel Pickens, Max Askew, Michael Wayne Decoteau, Miller Kay, J.T. Schnoor, Michael Ryder, Brady Bass, Connor Davis, Travis Crabtree, Cole Tingle, Luke Schnoor, Davis Walker, Carter McCammon, Myles Fallo, Trace Tingle, Sug Reynolds, Walker Frederic, Kyler Bean, Jack Duncan, Nick Watts, Quinn Inebinette, Joseph Foster, Patrick Keene, Andrew Harbin, Harris Hinkel, Joe Scarborough and Jase Walker; Head Coaches Johnny Olsen and Lee Tingle; and Assistant Coaches Aron Frederic and Jon Reynolds; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pascagoula Resurrection Catholic School "Eagles" Baseball Team and Coach Johnny Olsen for winning their first-ever MHSAA Class 1A State Baseball Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Johnny Olsen and Resurrection Catholic School Principal Kristal Sisson and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
