A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR HASKINS MONTGOMERY FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, Senator Haskins Montgomery has announced that he will not be seeking reelection.  He has represented Senate District 34, which covers portions of Jasper, Jones, Scott and Smith Counties.  In Haskins Montgomery, the citizens of District 34 have had effective representation from a dedicated public servant with business, economic development, agricultural and public administration experience; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Montgomery is the former Alderman and Mayor of Bay Springs, Mississippi, and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club of that city.  He joined the Mississippi Senate in 2008 and has served eight years; and

     WHEREAS, his committee assignments include the following:  Chairman of Veterans and Military Affairs, Agriculture, Business and Financial Institutions, Economic Development, Energy, Finance, Judiciary A and Universities and Colleges; and

     WHEREAS, as an economic developer he has served on many boards, including:  the Southern Pine Electric Power Association Board of Directors, Jones County Community College Board of Trustees, President of Mid-Mississippi Development District, and the Board of Directors of Jasper County Economic Development District; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Montgomery's legislative interest includes any bill that supports the Mississippi National Guard and members of our nation's military, and supporting any bill regarding economic development in Mississippi's Pine Belt region; and

     WHEREAS, Haskins is married to Diana McDonald and their children are Heather, Salli and Anna; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Montgomery's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment and fairness.  He has set the highest standard in all of his many roles:  father, husband, businessman, statesman, community leader, and leader in the Mississippi Senate and as a respected colleague:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Senator Haskins Montgomery, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom he was associated, and we wish Haskins and his family much success in his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Montgomery and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
