A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OCEAN SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL "GREYHOUNDS" CHEER TEAM AND HEAD COACH DIANE NETTLES FOR WINNING CONSECUTIVE MHSAA CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

     WHEREAS, the Ocean Springs High School "Greyhounds" Cheerleaders brought home a Mississippi High School 6A State Championship Title for the second year in a row.  The team received a trophy and a banner at the State Competition in Jackson on December 14, 2022, and each girl received a medallion.  The team advances to the National Competition February 11-12, 2023, in Orlando; and

     WHEREAS, "It's a very big honor," Ocean Springs Head Coach Dianne Nettles said.  "We were trying to defend our title.  They had 2-1/2 minutes to do our routine, and hit it flawlessly, so that they get the score they need to.  It's a one-shot deal."  Coach Nettles, who has been Cheerleader Coach at Ocean Springs High School for nine years, said, "We meet every day for two hours.  They've been really working on their skills and trying to perfect the routine to get it to a level to be state champs.  Claiming state title and advancing to national competition is reward for the efforts the girls put into it"; and

     WHEREAS, Ocean Springs High School Cheerleaders include:  Addison Hope Wade, Remington Taylor Janes, Tiffany Johnson, Jasmine Gerald, Myranda Gallagher, Jordan Alexis Reed, Nicole Broussard, Dallas Gillan, Berkeley Rene Smith, Mariah Rushing, Darlene Delcambre Weems, Hannah Farley, Haleigh Hughes, Mary Katherine Mattiace, Karina Ellis, Darrian Elyse Roberts, Erica Rushing, Alyssa Rae Chavez; Allison Stennis, Mary Beth Burton, Hali Saylor, Paige Conner, Kaitlyn Lee Comeaux, Ashley Noblin, Grace Munro, Katelyn Bishop, Carlie Reichel, Brittany Engel, Alexis Witcher, Olivia Grace Hosey, Karisma Slusher, Brooklyn Elise Oliver, Abbey Langley and Lindsay Streiff.  Coach Nettles is assisted by Coaches Kelly Pugh Pilger, Robin Rusk Thomas and Diane Mattiace; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these young student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ocean Springs High School "Greyhounds" Cheer Team and Head Coach Diane Nettles for winning consecutive MHSAA Class 6A State Championships, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for continued athletic and academic success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Diane Nettles for the team and Ocean Springs Principal Braxton Stowe, forwarded to the Ocean Springs School Board, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
