A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2022 GAUTIER HIGH SCHOOL "GATORS" BOYS GOLF TEAM AND COACH TOMMY BREWER FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST MHSAA CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, winning a State Championship, in any sport, is the pinnacle of high school athletics and just about the only thing that could make it better is winning a State Championship in your own backyard; and

     WHEREAS, the Gautier High School "Gators" Boys Golf Team can relate, taking home the 5A team crown on May 3, 2022, at Shell Landing Golf Course in Gautier, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, the "Gators" won the title by two strokes with a total score of 664 led by Individual State Champion Peyton Russell, who shot a 146 over the two-day tournament, nine strokes better than second place; and

     WHEREAS, helping Peyton hold up the trophy were teammates Damian Bacala, Sam Cox, Will Dickerson and Mo Gregory; and

     WHEREAS, this is the first State Title for the Gautier Golf Program, led by Coach Tommy Brewer, and the second title this year for the school, following in the footsteps of the girls powerlifting team; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2022 Gautier High School "Gators" Boys Golf Team and Coach Tommy Brewer for winning their first MHSAA Class 5A State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Tommy Brewer and Gautier Principal Roy Tolbert, forwarded to the Jackson County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
