A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR PHILLIP A. GANDY FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.
WHEREAS, Senator Phillip A. Gandy has represented Senate District 43, which includes portions of George, Greene, Stone and Wayne Counties, for four years. In Phillip Gandy, the citizens of District 43 have had effective representation from a dedicated public servant with strong Christian values; and
WHEREAS, Senator Gandy was born in Hickory, Mississippi, on August 28, 1950. He is married to the former Peggy McNeil; they have three children, Kimberly Stokley, Gwendolyn King and Joshua Gandy. Phillip is a Pastor, and his religious affiliation is Baptist; and
WHEREAS, he introduced Senate Bill No. 2681, "The Mississippi Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 2014." This bill drew the attention of many groups and individuals both inside and outside the state. Senator Gandy stated: "Religious freedom is a cherished freedom that must be preserved. It is one of the factors that has made America great. I appreciate the strong support and diligent hard work of many groups and individuals. I am thankful for their courage"; and
WHEREAS, Senator Gandy's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment, civility, courtesy and fairness. He has set the highest standard in all of his many roles: husband, father, Pastor, statesman, community leader and leader in the Mississippi Senate, and as a true friend. Phillip's service honored both the Mississippi Senate and this great State that he loved and served:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Senator Phillip A. Gandy, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom he was associated, and we wish Phillip and his family much success in his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Phillip A. Gandy and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
