A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING WEST LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL "BEARS" SENIOR JACKSON TAYLOR FOR WINNING THE 2022 MHSAA 2A STATE POWERLIFTING MEET WHICH WAS THE SCHOOL'S FIRST POWERLIFTING STATE TITLE IN SCHOOL HISTORY.

     WHEREAS, a year after finishing in second place at the MHSAA Class 3 2A State Powerlifting meet in 2021, West Lincoln High School Senior, Jackson Taylor, made sure he want out with a gold medal performance in 2022; and

     WHEREAS, Jackson Taylor won the 308-pound weight class on May 1, 2022, in the Mississippi Coliseum and in doing so, won the first powerlifting state title in West Lincoln High School's history; and

     WHEREAS, Taylor squatted 605-pounds, benched 315-pounds and deadlifted 550-pounds.  His three-lift total to 1,470-total pounds was almost 1,000 pounds higher than the second-place finisher; and

     WHEREAS, West Lincoln football coach, Brad Bland, also coaches powerlifting at the school.  The 6-foot 5-inches Taylor might be done with high school athletes, but he has signed to play football in 2023 at Copiah-Lincoln Community College as an offensive lineman; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this student athlete who has brought honor to his school, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate West Lincoln High School "Bears" Senior Jackson Taylor for winning the 2022 MHSAA 2A State Powerlifting meet which was the school's first powerlifting state title in West Lincoln High School's history, and extent to Jackson and his family our best wishes for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Jackson Taylor and Coach Brad Bland, forwarded to West Lincoln Principal Jason Frazier and the Lincoln County Board of Education and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
