A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE DANCE TEAM FOR WINNING A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE 2026 UDA COLLEGE NATIONALS AND CONTINUING A CHAMPIONSHIP LEGACY WITH A THREE-PEAT VICTORY IN THE OPEN HIP-HOP DIVISION.
WHEREAS, the Northwest Mississippi Community College Dance Team, under the leadership of Head Coach Patrice Christian, has once again demonstrated elite skill and ability by earning top national honors at the 2026 Universal Dance Association (UDA) College Dance Team National Championships in Orlando, Florida; and
WHEREAS, at this year's national competition, the Northwest Dance Team captured a first place victory in the Open Hip-Hop division, securing their third consecutive championship title in the division and establishing a historic three-peat triumph at the national level; and
WHEREAS, the Northwest Dance Team also earned a third place national finish in the Open Game Day Dance division, showcasing versatility, depth and talent in a highly competitive national field; and
WHEREAS, the key to this dynamic team's championship success has been the countless hours of preparation, discipline, sportsmanship and dedication of each team member, culminating in exceptional routines that exemplify the highest standards of collegiate athletics and artistic performance; and
WHEREAS, guided by the vision and leadership of Head Coach Patrice Christian, the Northwest Mississippi Community College Dance program has earned three national championships in the past four years, marking a period of unprecedented achievement and a rapid ascent to national prominence; and
WHEREAS, the Northwest Dance Team roster represents a diverse and gifted group of student-athletes from across Mississippi and neighboring states, reflecting the broad reach, appeal and competitive spirit of the program; and
WHEREAS, the continued success of the Northwest Dance Team is made possible through the unwavering support of the team's coaches, families, college administration and the entire Northwest Ranger community; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize and commend excellence in collegiate athletics, especially that displayed by the Northwest Mississippi Community College Dance Team, whose accomplished members bring distinction, honor and national recognition to their institution and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Northwest Mississippi Community College Dance Team for winning a national championship at the 2026 Universal Dance Association (UDA) College Nationals and continuing a championship legacy, including a three-peat national title in the Open Hip-Hop division, and extend our best wishes for continued success in all future competitions and endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach Patrice Christian and Northwest Mississippi Community College President Dr. Michael Heindl, forwarded to the Board of Trustees of Northwest Mississippi Community College, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
