Senate Concurrent Resolution 675

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE POWERFUL MUSICAL TALENT OF AMORY, MISSISSIPPI'S TRENT HARMON AND CONGRATULATING HIM FOR WINNING THE TITLE ON THE FINAL "AMERICAN IDOL" TELEVISION PRODUCTION.

     WHEREAS, Trent Harmon, a hardworking and talented young singer from Amory, Mississippi, burst into the national consciousness as winner of the final "American Idol" television production on April 7, 2016, to make his family, community, church, and entire home state beam with pride; and

     WHEREAS, this remarkable accomplishment was made even more special as another extraordinarily talented Mississippian La'Porsha Renae was the runner-up; and

     WHEREAS, Trent Harmon was selected on a national television broadcast from Hollywood's Dolby Theater as his mother, Cindy, his father, Randy, and his sister, Randi Kathryn, shed tears of joy, and while thousands of fans crowded Frisco Park in Amory to watch the event on a jumbotron; and

     WHEREAS, Trent Harmon was born in Amory on October 8, 1990, into a musically talented family, grew up on his family's farm in Becker, began singing in church at an early age, and attended Amory public schools where he performed in school musicals, including a memorable performance in 2006 as Joseph in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," which was performed at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis; and

     WHEREAS, Trent Harmon is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello; and

     WHEREAS, since being chosen American Idol, Trent Harmon has continued to be a goodwill ambassador for his hometown, his church, his school and his state; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend the professional excellence and positive image that has been projected by a young Mississippi citizen who has brought honor to his family, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the powerful musical talent of Amory, Mississippi's Trent Harmon and congratulate him for winning the title on the final "American Idol" television production, and extend our best wishes to Trent Harmon and his family for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Trent Harmon and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
