Senate Concurrent Resolution 667

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE PROFESSIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICE OF THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF MISSISSIPPI UNITED STATES MARSHAL GEORGE WHITE.

     WHEREAS, George White was nominated by President Obama on December 23, 2009, and was sworn in as the United States Marshal for the Southern District of Mississippi on May 20, 2010; and

     WHEREAS, Marshal White was the Director of the Commercial Driver's License Division and the Motor Carrier Safety Division for the State of Mississippi.  He was with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety from 1980 until 2010, serving in several roles including as Director of the Driver Records Division, as an Examiner with the Driver's License Bureau, and as a Trooper with the Department's Enforcement Division.  He was Mississippi's Trooper of the Year in 1988.  In addition to extensive professional training, Marshal White received a Bachelor of Science degree from Alcorn State University in 2009; and

     WHEREAS, Marshal White is a Master Mason, Shriner, and 33rd Degree Mason; and

     WHEREAS, the United States District Court Southern Division includes the following counties:  Southern Division Gulfport:  George, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River and Stone; Eastern Division Hattiesburg:  Clarke, Covington, Forrest, Jasper, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Lawrence, Marion, Perry, Walthall and Wayne; Northern Division Jackson:  Copiah, Hinds, Holmes, Issaquena, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Madison, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Rankin, Scott, Sharkey, Simpson, Smith, Warren and Yazoo;

Western Division Natchez:  Adams, Amite, Claiborne, Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, Pike and Wilkinson; and

     WHEREAS, we can never repay our debt to law enforcement officers and their families.  We must do what we can, with all that we have, to live our lives in a way that pays tribute to their service:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend the professional law enforcement service of the Southern District of Mississippi United States Marshal George White, and extend our best wishes to Marshal White and his family in their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to United States Marshal George White, forwarded to the Commissioner of Public Safety and the Governor, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
